BARLEY FLOUR
BARLEY is a plant from the gramineous family (Hordeum vulgare). The grains of this plant, used in making bread and beer and fed to animals, are called barley. Barley, along with wheat, is the world’s oldest cultivated plant in the Poaceae family. Humans used barley, the first cultivated plant in prehistoric times, as food. Even today, barley is cultivated and used as a food source in polar regions and high mountain regions where wheat cannot be cultivated. Additionally, bare-grain barley is grown along with rice in some regions of the Tibetan Plateau, Korea, China, and Japan, forming a food source for the people there. Barley images are also found in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and pyramids. Although not as productive as wheat, it holds an important place in world grain production because it can be grown in barren and infertile soils and under different climatic conditions. The agricultural processes for barley are the same as those of other gramineous plants. Moreover, it grows in a shorter time and earlier.
BARLEY FORMATION;
A germinated barley grain produces 5-7 rootlets. These rootlets disappear after a short time, and roots, which arise from nodes close to the soil, spread to a depth of 25-30 cm, nourishing the plant. Some roots extend deeper into the soil. Barley sprouts are green, while others have violet anthocyanin spots. It is the most frequently tillering plant among the grasses. In barley, the spike emerges after the fifth and sometimes the eighth node.
